Tips for Keeping That New-Car Smell

Posted on

When you buy a new car, you likely take a great deal of pleasure from it. You saved up and purchased something nice for yourself. The car might be a status symbol for you. It also could be a nicer way to get to work than riding the bus or dealing with your old car. One main reminder that you receive every time that you get into your car right after you buy it is the new car smell. The new-car smell reminds you that you are in a new car, that you had the money to get a new car, and that you should feel good about yourself with regard to that fact. However, that new car-smell is going to fade over time. Here are some tips for keeping that new-car smell for as long as possible.

1. Keep Anything with a Strong Odor Out of the Car

Your first step is to keep anything that has a strong odor out of the car. This means that any gym clothes that might be stinky have to go in a plastic bag in the trunk. Any fertilizer should be transported by an older vehicle or put in a plastic bag and then in the trunk. Your niece who decided to dress up as a vampire hunter and is holding a ton of garlic should be driven by another relative. Simply make sure that you keep anything that has an odor out of your car in order to keep it from overpowering the new car odor that you are currently enjoying.

2. Vacuum Regularly

Unless your seats and carpet are made out of a plastic that can be wiped down and is impermeable, you are going to need to vacuum your care regularly in order to keep the new-car smell. Despite your best efforts, dirt and dust are going to make it into the car. These can have a small odor that could cause your new car smell to go away. You can help keep the new-car smell longer by simply removing the dust and dirt at least once a week.

3. Get an Air Freshener That Has a New-Car Smell

Finally, go to the auto-body shop and pick up some air freshener for your car. There are air fresheners in "new-car smell," which will allow you to enhance the current new-car smell you have and allow it to last for a longer period of time.
